Turn the clocks back and replace the batteries!

Time to set the clocks back one hour this Sunday November 5th.  Nice that we get an extra hour sleep.

Don’t forget to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

Check out the “Fall Section” of our website for more Fall tips to help you prevent costly claims.

Enjoy your extra hour sleep!

There is more to moving clocks ahead for Daylight Savings Time. . .

Daylight Savings Time begins Sunday  March 12, 2017.  I am sure you don’t need another reminder to set your clocks ahead however this is not the main reason for this email.  Changing your clocks is a great reminder to do some home safety.

Spencer Insurance Agency suggests you do all of the following when you set your clocks ahead in the Spring and when you push them back in the Fall:

  • Replace all the batteries in your smoke detectors and clean them so they are free of dust or dirt.  A few years back one of my smoke detectors went off and a neighbor called the fire department.  It turned out my smoke detector was just dusty.  I little embarassing but what a great neighbor! Nice to know people in your neighborhood care.
  • Check your carbon monoxide detectors to make sure they are still working.
  • Check the tags on your fire extinguishers to make sure they are not out of date.  Replace them or have them serviced if needed.

These are a few small steps to take now to save you from a fire claim later.  Remind your friends and family to do the same.  Our goal is to help you prevent claims.  Your Protection and Peace of Mind is our only Business!

Just  a quick reminder that Daylight Savings Time begins at 2:00 am Sunday, March 10th.

So, Saturday night, don’t forget to move your clocks forward an hour so you’ll be on time for your Sunday activities.  Use that extra hour to change the batteries in your smoke alarms and flashlights.

Don’t forget the importance of a Carbon Monoxide Detector.  Learn more about the importance of Carbon Monoxide Detectors.

Spring is coming.  You can smell the flowers (especially at the Flower Show).  Soon we will be planting our gardens and enjoying the new blooms.

Protect your family, remember you can’t smell carbon monoxide so get that detector today!

Stay safe and enjoy all that Spring offers!

Daylight Savings Time Ends this weekend.

Home Safety Tip!!

I just wanted to send a quick reminder that Sunday, the 4th of November, will be the end of Daylight Savings time this year.

This is also known as the time when we fall back, so at 2:00 am Sunday morning, don’t forget to set your clocks back 1 hour.

Also, if you have any battery powered smoke alarms use the daylight savings time change as a reminder to replace the batteries in them.

Daylight Savings Time ends Sunday November 7th at 2:00 AM

I just wanted to remind everyone that Daylight Savings Time ends this Sunday November 7th at 2:00 AM.

So make sure you turn your clocks back on Saturday Night before you go to sleep.

Also this is a great time to change the batteries in all your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors in your house.  A small investment in new batteries could save the life of someone in your family.  So change those batteries twice a year when you change the clocks.

Something else you should do is to make sure any dust inside or around the detectors is cleaned out.  I learned about this the hard way when one of my smoke detectors went off at my house while I was at work.  A friend of mine who is a volunteer fireman called me at work to tell me that the fire company was headed to my house.  A concerned neighbor called them to say the smoke detector was going off.

I was a bit embarrassed when I got home and the Fire Marshall handed me a new smoke detector.  Thankfully there was no fire just a dusty smoke detector. I went over and thanked my neighbor for calling the fire company.  It is great to know I have neighbors who care about their neighbors. So save yourself some embarrassment and clean out the dust from your smoke detector.
