US Census Day was April 1st!!

numbersLast Thursday April 1st was US Census Day.  Hopefully you filled out your census and mailed it back already. The form is short and only asks 10 questions for each of the people living at your home.  It is very important for us to be counted so our townships and communities receive the proper government money.

If you have not completed the form you can expect a visit from a Census Taker to gather the information.  Make sure if you give someone information you check them out to make sure they are truly a Census Taker.

Census Takers will have proper ID that you can check. You can also check with the local office to verify their identity. The number to the Philadelphia office is (215) 717-1020. Be careful giving out your information as with any undertaking there will be scams.

Be aware that the Census:

  • Does not use the internet to collect data or send emails.  So don’t open any attachments concerning the US Census
  • Census Takers will never ask for your full Social Security number
  • Census Takers will not ask for any money
  • Census Takers will not ask for PIN, passwords or any banking information

All Census workers take an “Oath of nondisclosure.” The penalty for unlawful disclosure is a fine of up to $250,000 or imprisonment of up to 5 years, or both.  If you have any questions about the US Census check out their website at http://2010.census.gov/.

Protect your identity at all times.  Talk to our office today and make sure you have Identity fraud coverage on your homeowner’s policy.
