Happy Summer! Stay Safe!

Summer’s unofficial start begins this weekend.  All of us at Spencer Insurance wish you a Happy Memorial Day and hope you can take some time this summer to slow down, relax and recharge.

We continue to be here for you this summer.  Let us help protect those summer toys.

The hot summer days offer the perfect weather for boating and personal watercraft adventures.

It’s not a good idea though, to simply buy a Jet Ski or boat and then hop on it without some basic training on operation and safety. Taking advantage of any safety classes in your area not only keeps your family and friends safe but it could also result in insurance discounts for your boat or personal watercraft.

Some of the more basic safety tips for boat and watercraft operators include:

  • Complete a safety check of the vessel: Before operating your boat or Jet Ski you should complete a safety check. The details of your check will depend on the vessel you operate. In general you should check running lights, the accessibility of the fire extinguisher, that there are flotation devices present for every person boarding the vessel, and that there is no gas leak.
  • Wear a life vest: Even if you are an experienced boater and swimmer you should always wear your life vest. If you should become injured and unable to swim or tread water, a life vest can prevent you from drowning.
  • Observe the weather: You should avoid using your personal watercraft when there is lightning present. Also, make sure to monitor local weather reports so that you can get out of the water before a squall or storm hits and endangers you and your passengers.

When you are ready to begin looking at insurance options for your boat or personal watercraft, give us a call or contact us through our website. We can help you find a policy that fits your needs and your budget.

We hope you have a relaxing summer!
