daylight saving time ends - Spencer Insurance Agency, Inc

Turn the clocks back and check your smoke detectors and fire extinguishers.

This Saturday night we welcome the extra hour sleep as we turn the clocks back one hour.

But don’t forget the more important task when turning clocks back:  Check your smoke detectors and fire extinguishers.

If you have smoke detectors that have removable batteries then change those batteries.  Many of the smoke detectors today have a battery life of 10 years and then you need to throw it out and get a new one. So check the date on the smoke detector to see how old it is.  Don’t wait!  If it is 10 years old replace it.

While you are at it, check your fire extinguishers to make sure they still have a full charge.  If not replace them or have them serviced.

Spend a little time checking.  After all you did get an extra hour of sleep.  It could save your life.

Turn the clocks back and replace the batteries!

Time to set the clocks back one hour this Sunday November 5th.  Nice that we get an extra hour sleep.

Don’t forget to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

Check out the “Fall Section” of our website for more Fall tips to help you prevent costly claims.

Enjoy your extra hour sleep!

Daylight Savings Time ends Sunday November 6, 2016

spring-forward

I am sure you don’t need another reminder to set your clocks back however this is not the main reason for this blog.  Changing your clocks is a great reminder to do some home safety.

Spencer Insurance Agency suggests you do all of the following when you set your clocks ahead in the Spring and when you push them back in the Fall:

  • Replace all the batteries in your smoke detectors and clean them so they are free of dust or dirt.  A few years back one of my smoke detectors went off and a neighbor called the fire department.  It turned out my smoke detector was just dusty.  I little embarrassing but what a great neighbor! Nice to know people in your neighborhood care.
  • Check your carbon monoxide detectors to make sure they are still working.
  • Check the tags on your fire extinguishers to make sure they are not out of date.  Replace them or have them serviced if needed.

These are a few small steps to take now to save you from a fire claim later.  Remind your friends and family to do the same.  Our goal is to help you prevent claims.  Your Protection and Peace of Mind is our only Business!
