Daylight Savings Time Reminders

Well, last weekend we moved our clocks ahead one hour for Daylight Savings Time.  Let’s hope this is a sign that Spring has arrived.  What a winter!!!  Time to think about lying on the beach at the Jersey Shore!

Daylight Savings Time is also a great time to remember to change the batteries in your smoke or carbon monoxide detectors.   Protect your family by replacing all the batteries in these detectors, then do it again in the Fall when we change back from Daylight Savings time.

It is also a good idea to clean out your smoke detectors.  I learned this the hard way.  I recevied a call from a fireman friend who told me they had a fire alarm at my house.  A neighbor heard my smoke detector going off and called the fire department.  I later thanked my neighbor for calling the fire department even though it turned out to be a false alarm.  Better safe than sorry!

It turns out my smoke detector went off because of a build up of dust inside the detector.  Needless to say I replaced the smoke detector.  However, that experience taught me a lesson.  Everytime I change the battery in a smoke detector I make sure there is no dust.  If there is I clean it out.

Smoke detectors save lives, so be sure to make sure they are working!  A few dollars could save a life or the loss of property.

So, go out today and buy some batteries and replace all those batteries in your smoke detectors.  Be Safe and enjoy Spring!!
